Blessing of new priests in Indonesia

The Indonesian Jesuit Province was blessed with five new priests on July 25.  In a solemn and joyful celebration at St Anthony of Padua Parish, Kotabaru, Yogyakarta, Most Rev Robertus Rubiyatmoko, Archbishop of Semarang, ordained Deacons Heinrich Angga Indraswara, Agustinus Winaryanta, Simon Arief Herdian Putra Tama, Bonifacius Melkyor Pando and Imanuel Eko Anggun Sugiyono to the priesthood.

The newly ordained priests all studied philosophy at Driyarkara School of Philosophy in Jakarta and theology at Wedabhakti Pontifical School of Theology in Yogyakarta.

Fathers Agustinus Winaryanta, Bonifacius Melkyor Pando and Imanuel Eko Anggun Sugiyono entered the Society of Jesus in 2007. After philosophy, Fr Agustinus Winaryanta went to Gonzaga College Jakarta, Fr Bonifacius Melkyor Pando to the Foundation for Kanisius Education of the Semarang Archdiocese and Fr Imanuel Eko Anggun Sugiyono to Micronesia for regency.  Fathers Agustinus Winaryanta and Bonifacius Melkyor Pando were ordained deacons last month, while Fr Imanuel Eko Anggun Sugiyono served as deacon at Kristus Sahabat Kita Parish, Nabire, Papua.

Fr Heinrich Angga Indraswara entered the Society in 2009. After completing philosophy, he did his regency at Saint Joseph Parish, Baturetno and the Minor Seminary Mertoyudan.  He was assigned to Saint Anthony Padua Parish, Kotabaru after his diaconate ordination.

Fr Simon Arief Herdian Putra Tama entered the Society in 2004. After philosophy, he went to John de Britto College Yogyakarta and Minor Seminary Mertoyudan for regency.  After theology and his diaconate ordination, he served at Panti Semedi Retreat House Sangkalputung Klaten and in Cambodia.

During his homily, Archbishop Rubi asked the ordinands what their chosen theme, “Companions of Christ’s mission”, meant to them.  They shared how they had been accompanied by Jesus and everyone during their formation journey, and now as priests they are called to accompany Jesus in God’s mission.

Citing John 15:13, Archbishop Rubi reminded the new priests that there is no greater love than to give everything to their companions, even their lives. He told them that to be priests means to serve others wholeheartedly, and carrying out God’s mission requires collaboration with fellow priests, religious, lay and all of God’s people.

At the end of the Mass, Indonesian Provincial Fr Petrus Sunu Hardiyanta SJ announced the assignments of the new priests. Fr Heinrich Angga Indraswara has been missioned to work at Sanata Dharma University, Yogyakarta; Fr Agustinus Winaryanta to Saint Anthony Padua Parish; and Fr Bonifacius Melkyor Pando to Saint Theresa Parish, Bongsari, Semarang and to learn journalism. Fr Imanuel Eko Anggun Sugiyono will undertake special studies in Bioethics at Gajah Mada University, Yogyakarta while Fr Simon Arief Herdian Putra Tama will continue his mission in Cambodia.
