Paul Xu Guangqi-China’s Man for All Seasons

The organizers of the 12th Shanghai International Film and TV Festival gave high praise to the TV documentary Paul Xu Guangqi-China’s Man for All Seasons, which was co-produced by Taipei’s Kuangchi Program Service (KPS) and Nanjing’s Jiangsu Broadcasting Corporation (JBC).

The organizers decided that it would be exhibited at the Festival only as a non-competitive entry because of its religious content. However, they gave the documentary prime billing on the Shanghai Jishi Documentary TV Channel where the best documentaries of the Festival were shown daily. Xu Guangqi was aired in two 70-minute segments, prime time 8:00 pm, on June 1st and 2nd, the first two days of the Festival. It was then re-broadcast twice. Catholics in Shanghai reported that they were surprised and delighted to see it on TV.

KPS and Jiangsu TV are now preparing the documentary for broadcast on one of Central China TV’s (CCTV) channels. Jiangsu TV has already broadcast it several times over two of its satellite channels and over the internet. In Taiwan, the DVD is attracting interest and attention and is being shown privately and in schools.

The DVD version of Paul Xu Guangqi-China’s Man for All Seasons, with Mandarin Chinese and English soundtracks, is available from Kuangchi Program Service for US$15.00 plus postage.
