April-May Highlights in East Timor

Entrance to the Novitiate

Last April 22, Edgerio Martins, Julio Sousa, Marito Monteiro and Silvestre de Jesus officially began their two years of novitiate in Singapore.

First Vows

Five second-year novices, Afonso Alves, Albino Goncalves, Herculano Moniz, Roberto Madeira and Rui Muakandala, will make their first profession in the Society of Jesus on Tuesday, May 22, in Singapore. They will travel to Manila on May 25. Representative members of the families of the five vow men will be invited to the Loyola Community for Mass and dinner on May 22. The Eucharist will begin at 4:00 p.m. with dinner to follow.

Surprise Visit

On Monday, April 23, Archbishop Gerelli, Apostolic Nuncio to East Timor, and Bishop Alberto Ricardo, Bishop of Dili, paid an unannounced visit to our Loyola Community. After Fr. Ruedi treated them to a 30-minute introduction to CPA, they toured our residence, had a view of the construction of the new Amigos de Jesus school from the chapel terrace and joined Frs Joaquim, Venancio, Violanto and Mace for coffee in Fr. Mace’s new office (previous library).

Travels

Fr Martins will go to Singapore for a medical checkup and English study on May 14 -June 20. On May 28-June 17. Fr Mace will be in Singapore for visitation, in Rome to attend the "school" for new major superiors, and in Portugal to meet the Provincial of Portugal.
