June happenings in Cambodia

  • Ms. Wendy Lui, one of our two Hong Kong lay missionaries, was recovering from a bad bout of dengue fever while Fr Kyung-yong (KOR) was recovering from a bout of typhoid.
  • Sch. Setyo, a Jesuit scholastic from Indonesia, arrived in Cambodia on June 18 to begin his regency. He will spend some months learning the Khmer language and visiting the Jesuit Service projects.
  • The Jesuit Community has bought a piece of land at Ang Snuol, on the westside of Phnom Penh.
  • Fr Ashley Evans (HIB) was reassigned as Director of the Catholic Church Student Centre in Phnom Penh, upon the request of Bishop Emile Destombes.
  • Scholastics Matthew Tan (MAS) and Bongbong Tajon (PHI) arrived in Cambodia on June 28 to begin their regency.
  • Fr Gabriel Byong-young Je (KOR), the delegate of the Korean provincial, will attend the 50th anniversary celebrations in Vietnam. This will also be his first time to attend the meeting of Major Superiors in Vietnam.
