Vietnam celebrates 50th Jubilee

Categories: Uncategorized

The Jesuits of Vietnam Region will celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the return of the Jesuits to Vietnam (1975-2007) and the establishment of the Vietnam Province on July 14.

Together in remembrance of the feast of St Ignatius, a thanksgiving mass will be held in Hien Linh (Epiphany) Parish Church, Thu Duc, Ho Chi Minh. It will be presided by Cardinal J.B. Pham Minh Man, Archbishop of Ho Chi Minh Diocese.

Last May 31, nine second-year novices took their first vows in the Society of Jesus, and seventeen candidates entered into the novitiate.

The scholastics began their school year with a four-week course of English. They were divided into two groups: first-year scholastics studied with Fr William Watters (MAR), Fr Gerry Fritzpatrick (MAR), and Mrs. Ginny Lacata from the USA; and second and third-year scholastics studied with Fr Hung Pham (MIS) and Fr Paul Vu (MIS). This is a good beginning for scholastics, especially the first-year ones who just took their first vows last May and have started new period in their formation.

Fr Quang finished his study in Manila and returned to Vietnam this June. He was assigned to coordinate the ministry of giving Spiritual Exercises of Vietnam Region.
