Fr Mark Raper came to the Office to chair his first Consultants’ meeting last May 21–22. It was a friendly interaction in preparation for the coming Major Superiors’ Meeting. The group had lunch together on May 22, to gratefully say goodbye to two consultants who had served so well: Fr Priyono Marwan (IDO) and Fr Matthias Chae (KOR).
The Campus Ministry Meeting pushes through this June 04 -06 with Fr Bob Buenconsejo (PHI) coordinating the group. There will be nine Jesuits and nine lay participants coming from the different campus ministry offices of various Jesuit universities in EAO.
On June 25, the Arrupe Board will meet in Tokyo, Japan. The group is made up of Fr Mark Raper, JCEAO President, Fr Louis Gendron, Provincial of Chinese Province, Fr Danny Huang, outgoing Provincial of the Philippines, Fr Jojo Magadia, incoming Provincial of the Philippines, Fr John Mace, Major Superior of East Timor, Fr Koichi Matsumoto (JPN), Rector of Arrupe International Residence, Fr Paul Pollock, Major Superior of Myanmar, and Fr Pham Minh-Uoc, JCEAO Socius. Fr Matsumoto will chair the meeting and Fr Minh-Uoc will be the secretary.
The Major Superiors of the Assistancy will gather in Tokyo on June 26–29. It will be a time of welcoming the new provincials, Fr Jojo Magadia (PHI), Fr Steve Curtin (ASL) and possibly the ones from Indonesia and Korea. It will be a time to say goodbye to those who will be moving on: Fr Priyono Marwan (IDO), Fr Matthias Chae (KOR), and Fr Joseph Doan (VIE), outgoing Regional Assistant in Rome. Though Fr Danny Huang (PHI) leaves his post as Philippine Provincial, he will continue to attend future meetings as Fr Doan’s successor. It will also be a first for Fr Gabriel Je, the Delegate for Cambodia.
