The Provincial of Ranchi and of Korea visited Cambodia, Jesuits gathered in Siem Reap, and Jesuit Service looks forward to Jub‘s ordination.
Fr Ranjit Pascal Toppa, Provincial of Ranchi, India visited Cambodia from February 9 – 15. Fr Manoj Kumar Ekka (RAN) who has worked for four years in Cambodia, accompanied Fr Ranjit in Phnom Penh, Banteay Prieb, Battambang, Sisophon and Siem Reap where Jesuit Service is at work.
Fr John Sin, Provincial of Korea made his first visitation of the Cambodia Mission from February 20 to March 1. He visited all the Jesuit stations in Phnom Penh, Banteay Prieb, Battambang, Sisophon and Siem Reap, and joined the Jesuits missioned in Cambodia for their meeting in Siem Reap on February 25 – 28. The visit enabled him to gain a better insight into the work and people in this mission territory of the Korea Province.
On February 23, Cambodia welcomed back Deacon Joseph (Jub) Phongphand Phokthavi, who after joining the Society of Jesus in 2002, had spent his years of formation in Singapore (for novitiate), the Philippines (for philosophical studies) and Australia (for theological studies). Deacon Jub would start to prepare for his priestly ordination at the Battambang Parish Church on Sunday, May 24, 2009. Many of his friends are looking forward to the ordination, especially those in the Jesuit Service Cambodia, who have known him since he first joined JRS in 1985, and since his arrival in Cambodia with the JRS team in 1990.
The Jesuits in the Cambodia Mission gathered for a meeting at the Reflection Center in Siem Reap from February 25 – 28. Fr Mark Raper, President of JCEAO and Fr John Sin, Provincial of Korea, joined the meeting – one of a few occasions that gathered all the Jesuits missioned in Cambodia together to share friendship and consider matters of greater importance – the Jesuit contribution to this collective mission.
