The MAGiS 2011 experience is divided into three different geographical and pastoral stages, with different activities in each of them keeping the core elements because the magis starts in the prior of the WYD but it continues during the days in Madrid and we hope that it goes on in their daily lives back home. The three stages that make MAGiS 2011 are: the Ignatian gathering in Loyola, the experiments throughout Spain and Portugal, and the WYD at Madrid.
LOYOLA
The first stage takes place at the Shrine of Loyola during the 5-8 of August. It will be an Ignatian gathering of all the pilgrims that will take part on the MAGiS 2011.
What we are looking for is to welcome the pilgrims in a unique setting as well as prepare them to the experience they are about to start. The autobiography of S. Ignatius will set the theme of each day as well as setting the course for the spiritual journey that will guide the Young people during their pilgrimage.
The gathering concludes with the Holy Mass presided by the Fr. General of the Society of Jesus, that will be the sending point for the pilgrims to the various places where they will have their experiments.
EXPERIMENTS
The experiments will take places in different cities of Spain and Portugal during the 9-15 of August and it will be the deeper part of the whole experience.
These experiments are made by groups of 25 members, formed by three linguistic subgroups, and the core elements will be the backbone of every day.
We pretend that the young people discover Christ, with the help of S. Ignatius, in places and people where they never had imagined so they can start building bridges in the world and cooperating in His mission of reconciliation.
This stage concludes with the incorporation of all the MAGiS participants to the WYD in Madrid.
MADRID
In Madrid, the Young people will join thousands of pilgrims from around the world that have come to participate in the WYD during the 16-21 of August.
During those days, the young people will participate in the various activities offered by Madrid’s Diocese but keeping as much as possible the core elements, even if they have to be done in linguistic subgroups. For this, different places throughout Madrid will be prepared so the pilgrims can approach during the day and have a peaceful time to pray or make the examen without disrupting in any case the normal course of the WYD’s activities.
There will be a group of volunteers in Madrid in charge of guiding and advising the pilgrims so they can make the most of their experience at the WYD. Like this, we can deepen in the theme proposed by the diocese for the WYD ( Rooted and built up in Christ, and established in the faith).
The stage at Madrid, as well as the MAGiS 2011 experience, will end on Sunday 21st with the Eucharist presided by the Holy Father. After it, the pilgrims will return to their homelands.
NUMBER AND REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPANTS
The MAGiS 2011 experience is aimed at for young adults, so the top age will be set by the sociological reality of each country, not being higher in any case than 35 years old. The lower limit is established by the legal age (before the start of the experience) at their homelands.
The total amount of participants, including pilgrims, animators and team leaders, will be of 3000, so the inscription will be open for 2600 young people and the other 400 will be the staff members.
The profile of the pilgrim that will take part in Magis2011 is a Young post-school person (18-30), with some spiritual experience and not far from the Ignatian charisma.
