Education Colloquium in Fukuoka

Categories: Education

The Education Colloquium of the Jesuit Education Commission for Asia Pacific was finally held in Fukuoka, Japan, from August 1 to 5. Originally scheduled last year, the colloquium was postponed due to the AH1-N1 virus scare. After a long wait, the participants trickled into the Fukuoka Garden Palace, coming from Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Macau, Taipei, Micronesia, and East Timor.  The four-day event was ably and graciously hosted by the Japanese Province.

The Colloquium included sessions on the post-GC 35 Jesuit Conference for Asia Pacific (finally replacing its traditional but tedious name, Jesuit Conference for East Asia and Oceania), the Conference’s Initiative in East Timor, the Jesuit Education Vision, and Action Plans for collaborative projects.  The event culminated at the 26 Martyrs’ Shrine and the Atomic Bomb Museum in Nagasaki on the last day.

After the Colloquium, the National Secretaries met to evaluate the event, and drew up some tentative plans for the next Colloquium in August 2012. The theme will most probably be: “Ignatian Identity and Pedagogy.”

Featured here are some of the pictures taken during the colloquium, among them one of the many official group photos.
