Fr General visits Korea and Timor Leste

Fr Adolfo Nicolás, Superior General of the Society of Jesus visited the Asia Pacific Conference in January, to attend the Major Superiors Assembly, which was held in Timor Leste. 

On his way to Timor Leste, he visited the Jesuit Province of Korea, a young and growing Province of the Society: its 174 members have an average age of only 43.06.   During his 4-day visit from January 14 to 17, Fr Nicolás met with the members of the Province, and had a separate session with formands.  He also addressed the administrators, faculty and staff of Sogang University, the Jesuit university in Seoul.  In addition, Fr Nicolás met a number of Korean bishops, including the newly nominated Cardinal Archbishop of Seoul, Andrew Yeom.

Fr General Adolfo Nicolas SJ with the Korea Jesuit ProvinceFr General Adolfo Nicolas SJ with the Independent Region of East TimorFrom Korea, Fr Nicolás travelled to Dili, Timor Leste, for the Major Superiors Assembly of the Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific and a visit to Jesuits of the Independent Region of East Timor.  Before he became Superior General, Fr Nicolás was the President of the Conference and the Regional Superior of the Independent Region of East Timor. The Jesuit Region of East Timor has 52 Jesuits, with an average age of 27.06.  Most of these are still in formation outside Timor.  On the last day of his visit, January 25, Fr Nicolás was the guest of honour at the inauguration of the Jesuit Education Project.
