Click to pray

The Apostleship of Prayer has launched an app to encourage people throughout the world to pray every day for the challenges facing humanity and the mission of the Church, as expressed by the Pope in his monthly prayer intentions.

Click To Pray invites men and women around the world to accompany Pope Francis in a new digital way, with the hope that the continents unite in prayer for the great challenges of the world and the mission of the Church as expressed in the Pope’s intentions,” said Fr Frédéric Fornos SJ, International Director of the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network (Apostleship of Prayer) and the Delegate of the Superior General of the Society of Jesus for Apostleship of Prayer.

Available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French in both Android and iOS formats, the Click To Pray app sends users notifications on the World Day of Prayer (first Friday of each month) and proposes a rhythm of prayer three times a day: morning, daytime, and evening.

The app was born from a project developed by the Apostleship of Prayer in Portugal in 2014.  This first version created a community of 87,000 people in 138 countries and set the stage to globalise the project.

Launched on March 4, Click to Pray is the second initiative of the Apostleship of Prayer this year.  In January, it launched its first video of Pope Francis’ prayer intentions.

The Apostleship of Prayer began in 1844 in a house of formation for young Jesuits in Vals, in the south of France, and has been under the care of the Jesuits ever since.  In a letter to Jesuits in 2015, Fr Adolfo Nicolas, Superior General of the Society of Jesus, said that the aim of the Apostleship of Prayer is “to create a global network of prayer for the needs of the Church and the world. It is a simple and practical method for ‘thinking with the Church’ by means of prayer for the deep longings of the world with all its joys and sorrows. It makes prayer a true service and an aid to those who are striving daily to meet the world’s challenges.”

“Being part of a communication vehicle like Click To Pray allows us to achieve greater solidarity with Christians everywhere, with whom we join in prayer for the world, the Church, and one another,” said Fr James Kubicki SJ, National Director of the US Apostleship of Prayer. “We don’t know how, but we believe Jesus when he said that by uniting in prayer we can bring about much good in the world. ‘For with God all things are possible.’” [Apostleship of Prayer, Zenit, Click To Pray
