Young people today face numerous challenges, including addiction and distractions from social media, which can hinder their education and affect their mental health. These struggles have a negative impact on both themselves and their families. To address this issue, the Catholic Student Network in Northern Thailand organised a sports event aimed at helping students channel their energy into positive activities and steer clear of harmful behaviours, especially illegal drugs.
The event was held from 22 to 24 November at Ban Phrommari, Mae Taeng District, Chiang Mai Province. Over 100 students from various universities across Northern Thailand participated in the competitions.
Many of them appreciated the opportunity to foster unity, improve their health, and find renewed motivation to pursue their studies through sports. As one student shared:
“I’ve known about the Northern Catholic Students Network for some time, but I had never participated in any of their activities. I was hesitant because I didn’t know many people and worried that I might not make friends. But after actually joining the activity, I thought to myself, ‘Why didn’t I come sooner?’ Everyone was incredibly friendly, from the priests and staff, and, most especially, the youth participants. Everyone was so warm and approachable!”
Another student reflected:
“Participating in this sports programme was an experience filled with diversity, challenges, and intensity. The traditional games not only brought me joy and warmth but also made me feel like a child again. I had the chance to reconnect with friends who are like brothers and sisters to me that I hadn’t seen in a long time, and I also got to meet many new people.
“It was truly a wonderful experience. None of us played to win over others; we all played with love, joy, understanding, and mutual support, always ready to forgive one another.
A heartfelt thank you goes to everyone who joined, supported, and contributed to making this event a success. Your efforts have created lasting memories and strengthened the bonds within our network.
