Companions in a mission of justice and reconciliation

What we do

Promoting a Culture of Safety

Abuse is a pervasive issue that affects individuals and institutions across society. Recognising this, the Society of Jesus made a firm commitment to safeguarding during its 36th General Congregation, acknowledging the profound harm caused by the abuse of minors and adults at – risk.

In 2018, Fr General Arturo Sosa SJ launched the Promotion of a Consistent Culture of Protection (PCCP), a global initiative reinforcing the Society’s dedication to preventing all forms of abuse, both within and beyond the Church.

Within the Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific, safeguarding delegates have been appointed in all provinces and regions to lead and strengthen protection efforts. Their work includes:

  • Training and formationfor all those involved in the Jesuit mission.
  • Support for survivors, ensuring they receive compassionate and just responses.
  • Developing and enforcing safeguarding policiesthat establish clear preventive measures.

The Society of Jesus is committed to building and sustaining a culture of safety, accountability, and care, ensuring that all environments under its responsibility are places of trust and protection.
