Jesuits Gather at SIGNIS World Assembly in Chiang Mai, Thailand

The World Assembly of SIGNIS (World Catholic Association for Communication) met in Chiang Mai, Thailand in October to discuss the theme Media for a Culture of Peace: Children’s Rights, Tomorrow’s Promise. The Assembly was conducted by SIGNIS President Mr. Augustine Loorthusamy who, for the past several years, has also served as JESCOMEA Special Assistant. Thirteen Jesuits participated in the Assembly: Fr Ispuroyanto Iswarahadi (IDO), Fr Emmanuel Alfonso (PHI), Sch Jaime Rivera (TAI), Msgr James Gould (MIC), Fr Michael Kelly (ASL), Fr Richard Leonard (ASL), Fr Raymond Parent (CHN), Fr Jerry Martinson (CHN), Fr Rappai Poothokaren (IDA), Fr Ashok Vaghela (IDA), Fr Pierre Belanger (GLC), and Fr Attilio Hartmann (ECU)Sch ‘Yoht’ Manasan (TAI), who is making his regency in Chiang Mai, assisted with translation for the large number of Thai youth who attended the SIGNIS Assembly. The Jesuit contingent paid a brief visit to the Jesuit community at Seven Fountains followed by a dinner and informal sharing hosted by JESCOMEAO.
