On their way to China for a meeting, Fr Adam Zak (PME), the assistant of Fr. General for Central Europe, and Fr Antoine Kerhuel (GAL), the assistant for Western Europe, visited Cambodia on April 10 to 15. The purpose of the visit is to get to know the Society of Jesus in other assistancies.
Fr Greg Priyadi (IDO), the socius, welcomed them and brought them to places where Jesuits work. They visited Jesuit Service office in Phnom Penh and Banteay Prieb (Center of Dove) vocational school for the handicapped. On the way to Battambang prefecture, they stopped by in Kompong Chnang church and Cnok Tru floating church on Tonle Sap lake to join the Sunday masses, presided by Fr Totet Banaynal (PHI), the vicar general. Mgr. Kike Figaredo (CAS), the Apostolic Perfect welcomed them with a dinner in Pursat church before proceeding to Battambang prefecture where they spent two nights. The visit continued to Sisophon where they met Fr Joaqui Salord (TAR) and Fr Rajat Purti (RAN). They proceeded to Siem Reap to see Fr Heri Pardjijo (IDO). Fr Adam and Fr Antoine were able to visit Angkor Wat, one of the seven world wonders before going back to Phnom Penh. On the visit, Fr Antoine wrote: “I’m happy to get to know other aspects of the life of the Society, especially the life of the Society in Cambodia.”
Exposure of Sch. Dirga
Sch Dirgaprimawan (IDO), who is studying theology in Loyola School of Theology, Ateneo de Manila, spent his summer holiday in Cambodia from April 19 to May 17, 2010. He joined Jesuits in the different communities and the Jesuit Service staff in going to the villages for rural development, education, health and outreach works. This way, he had a glance of the Church and its communities, the Society and its apostolate, and the people and culture of Cambodia.
