(Last in a four-part series on the tertians of the 2018-2019 Asia Pacific Tertianship programme)
From all over the world, eight Jesuits have gathered in the Philippines for the Asia Pacific Tertianship from September 2018 to March 2019. Please pray for the tertians as they take this “exercise of obtaining love”.
Fr Dominic Pham Minh Thang (Vietnam)
From the Vietnamese Province, Fr Dominic Thang Pham entered the Society in 1997 and was ordained in 2008. He worked as Socius to the Novice Master for a year and a half.
“During this period of tertianship, I want to ask the grace of the Spiritual Exercises, especially the graces of the second and the third weeks, that is to say I want to deepen my relationship with the Lord, to know him more, to love him more and to follow him more closely. In addition, regarding the third week, I desire to suffer more with the crucified Jesus, to express my love for him in a more concrete way in daily life, especially through personal prayer every day. Moreover, I want to love and to serve others more generously through my Jesuit vocation,” said Fr Thang.
And after? “I wish to bring home a new heart and a new mind and as a consequence of this I desire to have a new way of looking at the world and others, a new way of loving and serving my brothers and sisters.”
Fr Jean M Joazile (Haiti)
From the Canadian Province, Fr Jean Joazile joined the Society in 1993 and was ordained in 2008. He has been the Deputy Director of Foi et Joie Haïti (Fe y Alegría Haití).
“First and foremost, I am looking forward to learning from the experiences of my fellow tertians and from those of the tertianship directors. I also hope to learn from the Philippine Province and from the many provinces represented in the current tertianship programme. I am also looking forward to having a deep and transformative experience of the Lord during my long retreat as never before,” shared Fr Jean.
He also hopes to find “…better assimilation and a stronger integration of my Jesuit identity” after the tertianship experience.
