Fr Totet Banaynal writes from Cambodia, “I am back to my base here in Battambang as parish priest. Things are going OK.  After the Tertianship and after four years of knowing and living with the people here, I feel like I am able to plan things out and be more proactive in the works. Fr Matthias Chae Joon-ho appointed Fr Greg Priyadi (IDO) as Acting Local Superior, until the time when the Delegate for Cambodia is selected. The change of responsibility of Local Superior took place on Sunday, July 23 effectively, but on July 31 officially (and symbolically). When the Delegate is appointed and takes on the new job, Fr Greg Priyadi will be his Socius.

Three major superiors visited the Mission. Fr Nicolás made his last visit as Major Superior last July 5-10. Frs Matthias and Mark Raper proceeded to Cambodia after attending the meeting in Macau.

The Jesuit Refugee Service personnel had moved back from the refugee camps in Thailand with the Khmer people who were returning to their war torn country. Cambodia had just been given status as a special “Mission” of the East Asia and Oceania Assistancy.

Cambodia: Now a Mission Territory of the Korean Province

Last May 24, Fr Joseph Doan, EAO Regional Assistant, informed Fr. Matthias Chae and Fr. Adolfo Nicolás that Fr. General has decided to make Cambodia a "Mission Territory" of the Korean Province.

Cambodia continues to be a shared responsibility of the whole Assistancy in what regards Personnel and Financial needs. Thus we firmly hope that different Units will continue to send Jesuits and support the different apostolic projects.
