Educational cooperation with Chinese University

The mission of the International Center for the Promotion of Partner Based Learning is to promote cross cultural and interdisciplinary cooperation leading to education of the whole person in the field of higher education. The focus is on cooperation between those taught and those teaching with a view to finding more effective educational models. Particular interest is in the part played in such education by former students.

Towards the 4th centenary of Matteo Ricci’s birth

The Macau Ricci Institute, directed by the Jesuits in Macau, organized a forum in which the various stages of Ricci’s life are remembered, from his arrival in China until his entrance into Peking, where he lived from 1583 to 1610. Father Gianni Criveller, PIME expert on Chinese issues, participated in the forum, which was directed by Fr Artur Wardega, Director of the Macau Institute. The forum underlined some lesser known aspects of the Italian missionary. The day concluded with a concert. (Source: Electronic News Service SJ, June 9, 2009)

A brand-new Mandarin Program at TBC

The Beijing Center now opens an 8-week summer mandarin program, ChinaVoice.

Chinese charactersIt offers four different levels of Chinese for beginning students to those at advanced level. During the program there will be one independent excursion to one of 15 cities in China, 4 guided field trips and 7-8 individual tours in Beijing. Students will get a personal tutor as well as the option for a Chinese homestay or a Chinese roommate.

Predictions for Chinese New Year

On January 26 the Chinese people celebrated New Year. In a video-editorial of eRenlai published on the web, Fr Benoît Vermander (CHN), Director of Ricci Institute in Taipei, declared that while it is always difficult to make predictions, he would venture three regarding China for the year of the Ox.

KPS – 50 years of evangelization

In Taipei, the Kuangchi Program Service and the Guanachi Cultural Group, the radio-TV production center and the publishing house of the Jesuits of Taiwan, celebrated 50 years of its service to evangelization. In half a century they have made a noteworthy contribution to social, cultural and religious education following the principles of truth, goodness and beauty.

Macau Symposium on Fr Pereira

A Symposium was hosted in Macau last November on Fr Tomás Pereira who died 300 years ago. Hosted by the Macau Ricci Institute, it was entitled In the Light and Shadow of an Emperor: Tomás Pereira, the Kangxi Emperor and the Jesuit Mission in China.
