Final Vows in Thailand

The celebration last May 27 for Fr Sugiyo Pitoyo’s final vows went very well, and gave much consolation and happiness to all present. Almost all of the Jesuits residing in Thailand were able to attend; several priests from the Major Seminary came; and the church at Xavier Hall was full. There was an enjoyable dinner for the Jesuit community & close friends afterwards.

Due to problems of recurring fatigue, exhaustion, and loss of energy, Fr Paul Pollock was advised to get away for a break. Fr Paul is very happy to comply with this marvelous advice. He will be leaving by November 30 latest for Berkeley, California, for several weeks and will have a full physical check-up while there. During his absence, Fr Miguel Garaizabal will be the acting major superior; and at Xavier Hall, Fr Olivier Morin will be the acting minister.

Bro Htoi Shawng arrived in Bangkok last October 8, at the new Suvarnabhumi Airport. His first introduction to Thailand was a glorious one.  He had already been registered at the Pra Mongkut Military Hospital, just near Xavier Hall, at the specialty clinic. He had his first appointment with the doctor on October 12, Thursday afternoon.

Ordination of Vinai Boonlue

posted in: Formation, Province News | 0

Vinai Boonlue was ordained by Bishop of Chiangmai, Joseph Sangval, at the Sacred Heart Cathedral of Chiangmai on the 19th of November 2005. The date was chosen because it was Saturday after the 17th of November 2005, the date that marked the 51st Anniversary of the second mission of the Jesuits in Thailand. A Regional Triduum preceded the ordination to end the Region’s Golden Anniversary and to prepare for the Jubilee of St. Ignatius, St. Francis Xavier, and Blessed Peter Favre.
