“You will be very busy. Please, give us the honor of washing your laundry for you.” With such a gracious greeting we were welcomed to Vietnam’s Curia, and the hospitality only grew from day to day.

During the working sessions from July 9–11, the Major Superiors approved a large grant for the purchase of a lot and house in Phnom Penh, Cambodia; approved a new system of sharing common expenses among the EAO Units; welcomed a report on East Africa from Fr Fratern Masawe, our guest and Moderator of the African Conference; and considered the many personnel needs of our common houses, missions and the central office. Fr General, who was also in Vietnam to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the return of the Jesuits there, also joined the group in one of the sessions.

From July 12–13, the major superiors met with the eight elected delegates in preparation for GC35.

The next meeting of the Major Superiors will be in Rome, during the General Congregation. In June 2008, they will gather in Japan.
