EAO Tertianship 2007-2008

The EAO Tertianship has been on for almost three weeks already. After the closing down of the Sri Lanka Tertianship for this year, the present group has reached its maximum of ten members, with a composition that reflects the colorful universality of the Society: one tertian is from Ethiopia, one from the States, one from Italy, one from India, two from Singapore, two from Korea (one of them is applied to Japan), and two from the Philippines. After the initial orientation, the Tertians are presently engaged in the task of “remembering” – both their own personal journeys and the early times of the Society. The first experiment will take place early October and will give them the opportunity to spend some time with the simple folks of Navotas in a Filipino Life Experience. Then they will begin the more direct preparation for the Long Retreat, due to start at the end of October. As each year, it will take place in our Novaliches Novitiate, to give the Tertians a chance to remember what they looked like as novices (while the novices can see what an “almost formed Jesuit” looks like after all those years of formation!). A prayer for them, please, and for Bill and myself as we move along this important journey.
