Annual meeting of Social Apostolate Coordinators in Rome

Categories: Social Justice

From May 26 to 31, the Assistancy coordinators of the Social Apostolate were gathered in Rome for their annual meeting. Attending the meeting were Frs Alfredo Ferro (Latin America), Andreas Gösele (Central Europe), Brendan Mac Partlin (Europe), Denis Kim (East Asia and Oceania), Elias Omondi (Africa), Higinio Pi Perez (Southern Europe), Jim Stormes (USA), Luis Herrera (Latin America), Robin Schweiger (Eastern Europe) and Xavier Jeyaraj (South Asia).

The first part of the meeting was dedicated to a Workshop on Ignatian Advocacy scheduled for November 2008 in Madrid. In order to prepare the Workshop and get feedback from the coordinators, representatives of the Jesuit NGOs involved in organizing the Workshop had come to Rome to join the group for the first one and a half days.

During the second part of the meeting, the coordinators scrutinized the decrees that have come out of the 35th General Congregation, so as to prepare a strategic vision for the Social Apostolate and the SJS office. The results of the meeting will be published in the next issue of Promotio Iustitiae, due to be out in November, and will be made available on the SJS website www.sjweb.info/sjs at the same time.
