The faithful of Railaco Kraik in Timor-Leste witnessed the inauguration of St Inacio de Loiola chapel on November 9. The communities worked hard to rehabilitate their chapel, generously lending their hands and hearts to the mission.
“I would like to congratulate you all for your efforts until this very day when the chapel finally receives God’s blessing to become the sacred edifice of the people of Railaco Kraik,” said Bishop Virgilio do Carmo SDB who presided over the Mass with Jesuit priests concelebrating.
“I ask each and every one of you to collaborate with the parish priest to be able to make this church greater not just materially but also spiritually,” said the Bishop of Dili.
The rehabilitation process was not easy for the communities because of their economic situation, but with the help of the Jesuits and the willingness of the people, plans were made on April 8. Seven months later, the renovated chapel now stands beautifully and proudly on top of the mountain.
“I am very proud and happy. The efforts that we put together from the beginning have contributed so much to the rehabilitation of the chapel,” shared local resident Alda de Jesus. “I believe that our efforts and collaboration will continue in the future especially in planning and organising the pastoral and sacramental activities of the church.”
Parishioner Maria da Conçeição dos Santos was likewise enthusiastic with the chapel’s inauguration.
“I feel like my joy is shared by all the communities of Railaco Kraik,” she said. “It is a joy that will move us forward as one faith community.”
