Typhoon Yagi’s devastation in Myanmar

Families displaced by Typhoon Yagi find temporary shelter within the grounds of the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Taungngu diocese

The Sacred Heart Cathedral in the northern Taungngu region of Myanmar has become a refuge for families and individuals of all faiths, offering sanctuary to those affected by Typhoon Yagi, which triggered widespread flooding and landslides across Southeast Asia in early September.

As of this writing, the military junta has reported over 400 deaths, while the UN estimates that approximately 887,000 people in Myanmar have been impacted by the disaster. The situation remains dire, compounded by the ongoing civil war.
