Fr General Arturo Sosa has appointed Fr Thomas Vũ Quang Trung SJ as the new socius of the Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific (JCAP), succeeding Fr Greg Soetomo SJ, who has served in the role since 2020.
Fr Trung, 69, brings extensive leadership experience to his new position. From 2010 to 2019, he was the executive secretary of the Committee on Consecrated Life of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Vietnam, where he oversaw the leadership, management, and formation of all local congregations.
Earlier, from 2007 to 2019, Fr Trung served as episcopal vicar for religious in the Saigon Archdiocese. He has also held several other significant roles, including provincial of the Vietnamese Jesuit Province, president of the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious in Vietnam, and rector of St Joseph Scholasticate.
Currently, Fr Trung is a spiritual director at St Joseph Seminary in Hanoi. In mid-June, he will join the Arrupe International Community in Manila, where he will also serve as a spiritual director.
“We thank Fr Trung for his availability for this important mission,” said JCAP President Fr Jun Viray SJ in his memo announcing the appointment. He also thanked Vietnamese Provincial Fr Joseph Pham Tuãn Nghĩa SJ and Fr Soetomo for five years of dedicated service as Socius to the JCAP president.
