The Society of Jesus and the local church in Myanmar are blessed to have two new priests. Deacons Nicholas Han Zaw Shing SJ from Tabyin Village in Magway Region and Joachim Anthony Tin Aung Lwin SJ from Yangon were ordained to the priesthood on 12 December at St Mary’s Cathedral in Yangon by Bishop Raymond Wai Lin Htun, Auxiliary Bishop of Yangon Archdiocese. With the ordination of both men, the Jesuits in Myanmar now have 21 local priests.

The church was packed full with religious and diocesan priests, sisters, and the lay faithful, including the family of the ordinands who came to witness the celebration.

In his homily, Bishop Wai Lin Htun reminded the newly ordained that priesthood is a lifelong journey and vocation of service. He warned them against clericalism and urged them to foster unity instead.

Fr Tin Aung Lwin, who gave the thanksgiving speech, expressed gratitude to their parents, Jesuit formators, church leaders, and everyone who accompanied and supported them throughout their formation.
