Fr Eli Rowdy Lumbo SJ of the Philippine Jesuit Province has been appointed the next Treasurer of the Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific (JCAP). He will succeed Fr Vidal Gornez SJ, who has served in the role since 2020.
Fr Lumbo entered the Society of Jesus in 1990 and was ordained a priest on 8 April 2000. He professed his Final Vows on 8 September 2016.
With a background in accounting, he served as Assistant Treasurer of the Philippine Province for six years. He recently completed a four-year assignment as Assistant Chaplain at the Philippine General Hospital.
During the first semester of this year, Fr Lumbo served as Assistant Chaplain at the Ateneo de Iloilo in the Philippines. Over the next three months, he will join the Pakistan mission, where he will give retreats to religious and clergy.
Fr Lumbo’s longest assignment was with the Philippine Prison Jesuit Service, where he served as Executive Director from 2011 to 2022. He was also a well-loved chaplain to persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa, Metro Manila.
He wrote about his experience accompanying PDLs through more than a decade of prison ministry in his book, Redemption Behind Bars, published by Jesuit Communications Philippines in 2023.The book won Best Book in Ministry at the 17th Cardinal Sin Catholic Book Awards.
Fr Lumbo will assume the position of JCAP Treasurer in early 2027.
