IRIN Films, in association with the UN Environment Programme, is pleased to announce the launch of three more short films as part of our ongoing series on the human cost of climate change.
Focusing on Asia, these high definition videos highlight the threat to Vietnam’s coastal mangrove forests, the dwindling fish stocks of Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake, and the innovative introduction of floating schools to flood-prone Bangladesh.
Flooding in Manila is not a surprise and the extent of it should not be surprising either if we pay any attention to what we are hearing about climate change every day. The problem is we don’t know where it will hit exactly and how and when. Though there is much local adaptation, many people still get caught unfortunately in deadly circumstances. We do not adequately know our landscape and susceptibility to flooding and we are not adequately relocating peoples’ lives and livelihoods. People in Manila might be led to believe this is the worst, but we are far from it.
The Conference Coordinator for Buddhist-Christian Dialogue, Fr Cyril Veliath (JPN), has been quite busy with video production. Here are the links to his lecture series on Buddhism and Christianity. Each lecture is about 8 – 10 minutes in duration. Fr Veliath gave much effort to keep them as simple and interesting as possible so that many may profit from these lectures.
