Spiritual Exercises in Spain

Fr Francesc Riera Figueras, Superior of the Community at the Cave of St. Ignatius in Manresa, Spain sends this invitation to all Jesuits, religious and lay people who are looking for a place to have their spiritual exercises, “We would like that our ‘holy place’, the birth-place of Ignatian spirituality where Ignatius wrote the core of the Exercises, could become a home for all Jesuits and other religious or lay people in order to practice the Spiritual Exercises for a full month.

A brand-new Mandarin Program at TBC

The Beijing Center now opens an 8-week summer mandarin program, ChinaVoice.

Chinese charactersIt offers four different levels of Chinese for beginning students to those at advanced level. During the program there will be one independent excursion to one of 15 cities in China, 4 guided field trips and 7-8 individual tours in Beijing. Students will get a personal tutor as well as the option for a Chinese homestay or a Chinese roommate.

Jesuit Mission Cambodia February 2009 News

The Provincial of Ranchi and of Korea visited Cambodia, Jesuits gathered in Siem Reap, and Jesuit Service looks forward to Jub‘s ordination.

Fr Ranjit Pascal Toppa, Provincial of Ranchi, India visited Cambodia from February 9 – 15. Fr Manoj Kumar Ekka (RAN) who has worked for four years in Cambodia, accompanied Fr Ranjit in Phnom Penh, Banteay Prieb, Battambang, Sisophon and Siem Reap where Jesuit Service is at work.

Fr Mace back on his feet

Fr John Mace (WIS), Regional Superior of East Timor, wrote on March 7, "I returned to the Jesuit Community of Creighton University after lunch today (Friday, March 6).

The operation took about one and one half hours on Monday morning, beginning at 7:30. I remember being rolled into the operating room. And then suddenly I heard nurses asking me how I felt. It was all over.

Amazing that the nurses had me stand up that very afternoon.

Candidates selection in Indonesia

From February 25 to March 3 Indonesia made the candidates’ selection for 2009. There were 19 candidates who came from 5 minor seminaries and vocation promotion team. From St. Peter Canisius Mertoyudan Magelang were eight candidates, St. Wacana Bhakti, Jakarta had six, St. Vincent a Paulo Minor Seminary, Garum East Java had one, St. Petrus Claver minor Seminary, Ujung Pandang, Sulawesi had one, Lalean Seminary, Atambua, West Timor also one, and Vocation promotion team got 2 candidates.

Thailand February-March 2009 News

Fr Pollock was on the road for visitations, a homecoming for Fr Vinai, and one more novice for the Region.

Fr Paul Pollock, Regional Superior, made the annual visitation of Myanmar and Thai scholastics/brother at Arrupe International Residence (16 Jesuits) on March 2 to 5; and Truk, Micronesia (1 Jesuit), March 6-7. He returned to Bangkok on March 9.
