It was very timely for the six regents in the Cambodia Mission, Cahyo Christanto (IDO), John Kim Du-huyn (KOR), Bayu Marsetyawan (IDO), Matthew Tan (MAS), John-Lester Tajon (PHI) and Kwon Oh-chang (KOR), to have their regents’ meeting at CROAP at Pursat from 17 – 18 October, where they shared the challenges faced and graces received since their last meeting in June.

The three first-year novices, Armando Smith, Gemito de Jesus and Luis Perreira, began the Spiritual Exercises on November 1 under the tutelage of Fr Joaquim Sarmento at the Carmelite Retreat House in Maubara. Fr Dibya (IDO) remains at the Manresa Novitiate to watch and pray.

Sabbatical Pilgrimage

From November 10 – 14, Ms. Gemma Yecla, will conduct her sessions on Genogram. This will be followed by the sessions on Prayer & Discernment by Sr. Judette Gallares, r.c. from November 17 – 21. Then, from November 24 – 29, it will be a joint session with the other course for the module of Fr John Fuellenbach, SVD on Kingdom of God and Christian Community

TBC Second Decade Celebration

10th anniversary of The Beijing Center (TBC)Last October 16, a special celebration was held at University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) to mark the 10th anniversary of The Beijing Center (TBC) which is located on the campus of the university. Fr Ron Anton, the founder and director, described how the Center has evolved from the original nine students to the present 125 students.

Jesuit ordained bishop in Vietnam

On Oct. 7 Cosme Hoang Van Dat, SJ was ordained a bishop and installed as the ninth Bishop of the Diocese of Bac Ninh, Vietnam. The Principal Consecrator was Bishop Peter Nguyen Van Nhon of Dalat, the president of the Vietnam Conference of Catholic Bishops. Twenty-one bishops took part, including Cardinal Paul Joseph Pham Dinh Tung, retired Archbishop of Hanoi; hundreds of priests and religious and over ten thousand faithful joined the ceremony.

Fr General’s intervention to the XII Synod of Bishops

Father Adolfo Nicolás was appointed by the Holy Father to be a member of the XII Synod of Bishops on The Word of God in the Life and Mission of the Church. The members of the Synod may address the assembly directly or submit their interventions in writing. Father Nicolás’ written intervention was published in the Official Bulletin of the Synod, on October 15. The text, original in English, follows.

In these days of the Synod we have heard a good number of those aspects that make the Holy Scriptures such a precious gift from God.

A Splendid Book on Fr Pedro Arrupe

Book on Pedro ArrupeThe present Superior General Fr Adolfo Nicolas, SJ thought it was just fitting to pay rich tributes to Pedro Arrupe for his heroic leadership. When Fr Adolfo Nicolas was the President of the East Asian Jesuit Conference prior to his election, he initiated the work of translation of different essays on Arrupe which are found in the Curia archives. Later Fr Hector D’Souza, president of the Jesuit Conference of South Asia took keen interest in publishing this book.
