Once again, major superiors from East Asia and Oceania came face to face to discuss common concerns and issues relevant to the region. This time, they met in Sydney, Australia last January 29 to February 2. The group welcomed its latest member, Fr. John Mace (WIS), Major Superior of the East Timor Region. International Tertianship comes to a close

It seems we just started a few days ago, and it is already time to think of departure. After the Christmas Ministries spent in the Mountain Province and in the coastal towns of Isabela Province, the Tertians spent the whole month of January for the Study of the Institute—difficult and challenging but rewarding work that confronts us both with the ideals set forth for us by Ignatius and with the realities of today’s world.

Effective Steward Leadership Course 2007

The ongoing course on Effective Steward Leadership: Towards A New Way of Being Church, which started on January 4, 2007, is already halfway. The course will end on March 30.

Following lectures are as follows: Pastoral Initiative for a Participatory Church by Bishop Julio Labayen, OCD from March 5-9; Lay Ecclesial Ministry: A Canonical Perspective by Fr. Geoffrey King (ASL), from March 12-16; and on Social Teaching of the Church by Fr. Dionisio Miranda, SVD, from March 19-23.

The clip features footages by Indonesian journalist Agus Muliawan, who was killed in East Timor while accompanying nuns on the way to visit refugees.

Myanmar welcome new novices

Six men have been accepted into the Novitiate. They will arrive in Taunggyi on April 28, 2007, together with the four Thai men who are entering first year novitiate.

Study Session for Candidacy Programs

A four-day Study session for Candidacy Programs will be held in Singapore from March 8-11 to reflect seriously on the Candidacy Programs in the Assistancy. This activity was developed as a response to some Myanmarese Bishops’ request, the new situation in East Timor, and a beginning Candidacy program in Thailand. In order to learn from the experience of well-developed Programs with good tradition and plenty of reflection, people from the Malaysia-Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam were invited as helpers.
