On November 3-6 Fr. Nicolas travels to Phnom Penh for a consultation with the Jesuit Service Cambodia. He proceeds to Singapore to visit the members of the Malaysia and Singapore Regions, and returns to the office on November 10.

Incoming Socius to JCEAO

After spending two months in Nagasaki for the first part of his Tertianship Program, Fr. Pham Minh-Uoc SJ (ASL) flies to Manila for a brief visit at JCEAO office, from Oct 15 to Nov 3, 2005. He meets with the President Fr. Adolfo Nicolas SJ, the present Socius Fr. Riyo, and the staffs. In these three weeks he is guided through all the daily activities of the offfice so that he can become more familiar with his future responsibilies as Socius, which will start from January 2006.

Consultors and Secretaries Meeting

The President of the JCEAO convenes the consultors to have a meeting in Oct 5–6. The group welcomes Fr. Matthias CHAE Joon-ho, the Provincial of the new province Korea, as a new consultor. Then the secretaries will meet in Oct 8–10. Both meetings will take place at the JCEAO Office in Manila.

The Assistancy website www.jceao.net is now sporting a new look. Set up over a month ago, it is based on Mambo, an open-source content management system. One of its best features is the ease in publishing the latest Assistancy news. In the near future, we hope to tap more of its functionalities to provide you better services.

Mass for the martyrs

The East Timores Jesuits celebrates mass for the martyrs, on Wednesday, September 28, 2005 Fr. Carolus Albrecht Karim Arbi, SJ and Fr. Tarcicius Dewanto, SJ, both are martyrs in East Timor, who died in 1999. They were buried in the compound of the Jesuit Residence, Taibesi Dili.

New Secretary of EAO Regional Assistant

In the third week of September 2005, Fr. Danny Huang has appointed Fr. Joe Quilongquilong to replace Fr. Tim Ofrasio as EAO Regional Secretary as soon as possible. He will start on a date to be decided by Fr. Joseph Doan.

We sincerely thank the Philippine Province for generously providing one of its members for this important job. We happily appreciate Fr. Quilongquilong for his availability for this new mission. And to Fr. Tim Ofracio, our heartfelt gratitude for his service as EAO Regional Secretary.

In East Timor

Fr. Nicolas and his Socius are away from the office, from September 16 until September 30, visitng East Timor for some meetings with several apostolate groups. Another important event during this visit will be the last vows of Fr. Lalo Lebron Casanello, SJ on September 27.

Ordination: Deacons and Priest

In the Oratory of St. Ignatius of Loyola, Loyola House of Studies, Manila, five deacons and one priest were ordained by His Excellency Honest F. Ongtioco, DD, in September 10, 2005 From the five new deacons, two are from Arrupe International Residence. They are Sivarajah Ahilaraj, SJ and Milroy R. Fernando, SJ from Sri Lanka. The other three new deacons are Joseph Lester C. Maramara, SJ, Angelo A. Silerio, SJ, Joaquin Jose Mari C. Sumpaico III, SJ all from the Philippines province. The priest is Rogel Anecito L. Abais, SJ. As a new tradition, at the end of the celebration, Fr.

R.I.P Fr. G.Tjokrosudirdjo, SJ

We share with you this sad news from the Indonesian Province, that this morning, September 10, 2005, at 4.20 a.m in Semarang, Fr. G. Tjokro passed away.

He has been serving the Province as the Secretary of the Provincial for these past years, noted for his smiles and patience. We pray for his peaceful repose of his soul in the hand of Our Lord.

The funeral will be conducted on Sunday, September 11, 2005, at Girisonta, Ungaran, where many our beloved Jesuits have rested in peace.
