The joy in being brothers

Brother Jeffrey Pioquinto SJ, JCAP coordinator for the Brothers Circle, shares what transpired at the Brothers Circle Meeting held from June 10 to 15 in Dili, Timor-Leste.

It was 6.40 pm when we came back from our museum tour in Dili and a very fruitful day in Kasait and Hera where we met for our last Mass together. The hall was silent, the corridors dark and the wind paid its respects to the holy presence of our Almighty God. We sat waiting for the Mass to start knowing that a happy and meaningful meeting of Jesuit brothers was coming to an end.

Three Jesuits awarded Timor-Leste’s highest honour

The Government of Timor-Leste has conferred the country’s highest honour on three Jesuit priests.  Fr Tarcisius Dewanto SJ, Fr Karl Albrecht (Carolus Albrecht Karim Arbie) SJ and Fr Jaime Coelho SJ were awarded the Ordem de Timor Leste (Order of Timor-Leste), in two ceremonies held in May to recognise the contribution of priests, religious men and women and missionaries to the country’s struggle for peace and independence.

Providing villagers with access to clean water

In the two years since it was set up, Jesuit Social Service (JSS) in Timor-Leste has embarked on several projects to promote community development and empower the poor to become self-sufficient.  Water and sanitation is one of four priority areas and a key project aims to provide communities with access to clean water.
