First Ordination for the Chinese Province in Several Years

Fr Louis Gendron, Provincial of the Chinese Province, wrote on this touching celebration: “On August 26, our Chinese scholastic Lúcás Chan was ordained a priest by Cardinal Zen in the Hong Kong Cathedral, together with a diocesan seminarian. The church was packed. I was interiorly moved several times during the celebration (although it was almost all in Cantonese) and deeply grateful to the Lord for having a new priest in our midst. The master of liturgy found ways to provide some important roles for women, for instance by asking two women to introduce the ordinandi to the congregation in front of the bishops and concelebrants.

Lúcás is now studying for a licentiate in moral theology at the Weston Jesuit School of Theology (Boston). His mentor Fr Jim Keenan came for the ordination. Earlier in July, Lúcás had been the main assistant of Fr Keenan in organizing a worldwide congress of more than 400 Catholic moral theologians in Italy. The first mass, in our St. Ignatius chapel at Wah Yan Kowloon, was well attended.”
