Mr Murayama Hyōe took his first vows at Mass celebrated by Fr Provincial Shogo Sumita at Kamishakujii, Japan on March 21. The night's rainstorm gave way to a fine day as a sign to the new scholastic of the many blessings from God and from the 40 Jesuit joining him in the Mass.
His mother was present and also two candidates thinking of a vocation. Novice Master, FrShionoya, gave a profoundly encouraging homily. The novitiate community gave a memorable performance of songs and instrumental pieces at the dinner party in the dining room after Mass. MrMori, new novice in first probation, played a large role in both the Mass and the party.
Mr Murayama moved on 24 March to the Scholasticate at Wakamiya, where he received a hearty welcome from senior scholastics and has now started his period of first studies at Sophia University. (Contributor: Fr Robert Chiesa)
Soon after our retreat, Bishop Kōda ordained scholastics Shibata,Yamauchi, andNakai deacons in the small Scholasticate chapel. The bishop's friendly manner and homily made the Mass very warm- hearted. The ensuing dinner party, held in a family atmosphere (including two babies), enabled all present to feel God's blessing. We thank the members of the Province for their prayers. (Contributor: Sch Jun Nakai)
