A mini-documentary on the universe

Categories: Education

Fr Pedro Walpole SJ and Fr James Reuter SJ provide the narration for a mini-documentary that provides a quick 14-minute tour of the universe.  They describe in simple terms how the Big Bang really occurred and the discovery of neutrinos, galactic super-clusters, cosmic voids, and dark galaxies. Dramatic Hubble space photos are also featured.

Entitled “Man’s Cosmic Third Eye”, the mini-documentary features the SDSS (Sloan Digital Sky Survey) digital super-telescope that has discovered half a billion new astronomical objects since 2000, including 139 new supernovas. It has also taken the largest known photo ever, spanning two billion light years, in high resolution. The SDSS never sleeps, taking thousands of high-resolution photos every minute of the day. Its aperture never rests.

It was produced by Mr Bernie Lopez.
