Eight Jesuits ordained priests in Vietnam

The Vietnam Jesuit Province has eight new Vietnamese priests.  The new Jesuit priests, who were ordained on August 25 at the Saint Joseph Jesuit Scholasticate in Thu Duc, Ho Chi Minh City, are Fr Anthony Pham Ba Hoc, Fr Dominic Nguyen Quoc Kinh, Fr Joseph Nguyen Tuan Phuc, Fr Thaddeus Nguyen Van Yen, Fr Francis Xavier Nguyen Thanh Vu, Fr Anthony Tran Thanh Tan, Fr Vincent Nguyen Minh Phuc and Fr Peter Nguyen Van Tang.

The Most Rev Joseph Tran Van Toan, Auxiliary Bishop of Long Xuyên Diocese, presided at the liturgy with Vietnam Jesuit Provincial Fr Joseph Phạm Thanh Liêm SJ and more than 100 priests, including Jesuits, concelebrating.  Four choirs, the Suối Việt Choir, the Epiphany Parish Choir, the Scholastics Choir and Pre-Novices Choir, joined forces to sing the hymns.

Harmony of mercy between God and man was the main theme of the ceremony. In his message, Bishop Tran shared, “Jesus on the cross is the clearest proof of the harmony of the mercy of God with man.” He invited the new priests to become true witnesses of Christ by sharing God’s mercy to His people.

After the ordination mass, members of the congregation, family and friends gathered for a simple breakfast.

The new priests will embark soon on their new assignments. Fr Pham Ba Hoc, Fr Nguyen Quoc Kinh and Fr Nguyen Thanh Vu will be engaged in pastoral ministry work in the Dioceses of Long Xuyên, Cần Thơ and Vinh, respectively. Fr Nguyen Tuan Phuc will do evangelization work in Laos. Fr Nguyen Van Yen has been assigned as Chairperson of the Mass Media Ministry of the Vietnam Jesuit Province, while Fr Tran Thanh Tan will pursue his Licentiate in Sacred Theology in Boston College, USA. Fr Nguyen Minh Phuc will serve as Assistant Pastor of St Michael Parish and Fr Nguyen Van Tang is presently the Socius to the Novice Master at Sacred Heart Novitiate in Vietnam.
