During the full moon days of November, nearly 50 Buddhist meditators and two Jesuits gathered to practise mindfulness meditation amidst the serene beauty of Bu Gia Map National Park in Binh Phuoc Province, Vietnam. Dedicated to the mission of caring for our common home, the group went on a journey of self-discovery and connection. A Zen master led the group in practising mindfulness in every activity.
Walking in mindfulness allowed us to feel a profound connection with nature and one another through every step and breath. Meditation provided moments of introspection, enabling us to focus on the present and draw positive energy from Mother Nature. It also deepened our awareness of our shared breath with ancestors, fostering a sense of continuity and belonging.
Mindful eating helped us recognise the nurturing care of Mother Nature in every bite, teaching us to receive nourishment with gratitude to the Creator. Practicing mindfulness in relationships encouraged us to approach others with pure intentions, echoing the harmonious way nature interacts with humanity. This practice extended beyond traditional meditation halls into the vast and majestic embrace of nature, where every step, breath, word, and mindful act brought us closer to ourselves and to the natural world.
Nature became not merely a subject of exploration but a sacred space for reflection, allowing us to experience the profound interconnectedness of humans, nature, and the Creator. This mindfulness journey helped us see that harmony with nature can transform our daily lives. It encouraged us to live in balance—not just with nature but with others and with ourselves.
This experience was a powerful reminder of how Mother Nature unites us. It brought together Buddhists and Catholics, the young and the elderly, indigenous and urban individuals. Through this shared practice, we nurtured a collective consciousness and a sense of common humanity within the peaceful and pristine setting of the natural mountains and forests.
