Radyo Katipunan 87.9 FM, Ateneo de Manila University’s community radio station managed by Jesuit Communications Philippines (JesCom), has been recognised as one of ten recipients of the Spirit of College Radio Awards 2025 during the celebration of World College Radio Day (WCRD).
The annual award recognises campus radio stations that demonstrate exceptional dedication, innovation, and community impact. Radyo Katipunan (RK) was the only Asian station included in this year’s roster of winners. This is the station’s third citation, following awards in 2020 and 2023, making it one of the most consistently recognised college radio stations worldwide.
This year’s award-winning team was led by Teo Ricaforte, former RK Digital Media Coordinator and RKada’s programme manager, together with Martin Arriola, Head of Talent Management; Gel Estorpe, Head of Internal Relations; Toni Ofina, Head of External Relations; Sam Marasigan, Head of Marketing, and Zak Capinding, Head of Technicals
Arriola, Estorpe, and Ofina also hosted Radyo Katipunan’s segment in the WCRD 24-hour global broadcast, a multimedia programme of reflection, conversation, and music that organisers praised for highlighting “radio’s power to connect and empower”. RK also co-represented the Philippines in the global marathon broadcast.
RK Station Manager Justin Pontino said this year’s participation aligned with the station’s anniversary theme, “S7REAMING BEYOND,” which calls for expanding the station’s mission of education, engagement, and evangelisation across new frontiers.
Founded in 2018, Radyo Katipunan has grown into a platform for formation, dialogue, and public service. Its programming ranges from Keep the Faith: Daily Mass with the Jesuits to student-led talk shows, cultural programmes, and university partnerships.
JesCom Executive Director Fr Nono Alfonso SJ welcomed the recognition, affirming Radyo Katipunan’s role in JesCom’s mission of using media to form conscience, encourage dialogue, and promote truth, compassion, and faith.
