There will be a consultation of youth/young adult workers during the MAGiS08 in Sydney, Australia.

The Third Edition of the East Asian Theological Encounter Program will begin on July 27 until August 26. It will be held at the Seven Fountains Spirituality Center, Chiangmai, Thailand. It is under the directorship of Fr John Shea (NYK), with Fr Michael Amaladoss (MDU), Director of the DiNobili Institute in Chennai, as the major Tutor.

New Canonical Community in Yangon

On June 21, Fr Paul Pollock, Major Superior of Myanmar, wrote: "I am very happy to announce that Father General has approved the establishment of a new local community for the Jesuits residing in the Yangon area. Together with the decree of canonical establishment, Father General has also approved my appointment of Fr Peter Kim Se Mang as superior of this community. Fr Peter begins as superior today, June 21, 2008, feast of St. Aloysius Gonzaga.

Seven East Timorese scholastics go for an apostolic home visit

Seven East Timorese scholastics, Isaias Abilio Caldas, Gustavo Soares, Calisto Seco Colo, Diogo Carvalho, Paulo dos Santos, Sidelizio Pereira and Joao dos Santos went for apostolic home visit to East Timor from April 11 – May 23. Calisto went through Kupang, West Timor then to Oecussi, his hometown, where he stayed for two weeks.

The Jesuit Community in Phnom Penh and Banteay Prieb gathered at the Jesuit House in Phnom Penh on May 3 to share about their community life. These quarterly meetings will become a part of building up Jesuit community life in the Cambodia Mission.

Congratulations to Joaquim Pires on taking First Vows last May 19. We pray that his adjustment to life at Arrupe Residence will go smoothly — if he ever gets there. Not having a visa prevented him from traveling on May 20. No tickets on Philippine Airlines in May prevented his going on May 23.

Myanmar May 2008 News

Out of the desolation in Myanmar came a ray of good news from our Jesuit brothers. Campion Language Institute opened one week late. Fr Paul Pollock was there for the opening Mass on May 12, 10 days after cyclone Nargis went thru. They have 300 students!
