The Malaysia-Singapore Jesuit Region (MAS) will have a new Superior beginning 15 December. Fr General Arturo Sosa SJ has appointed Fr Francis Lim Chin Choy SJ to succeed Fr Christopher Soh Yeow Fook SJ, who has been MAS Regional Superior since 2016.

Fr Lim is a native of Melaka, Malaysia. After joining the Society of Jesus in Singapore in 2001, he was sent to Indonesia to study philosophy at Sekolah Tinggi Filsafat Driyakara in Jakarta and then to Canada to study theology at Regis College in Toronto.

He was ordained a priest on 11 August 2012 and professed his Final Vows on 31 July 2021. He is the Socius of the MAS Superior and, concurrently, Communications Officer of the Region.

Fr Lim is an experienced educator and administrator. He taught in a government school for nearly seven years before becoming a Jesuit. After his ordination, he served as principal of St Joseph’s Private Secondary School, a diocesan owned school in Kuching, Malaysia, for about 10 years from 2012 to 2021. He spent a year away from Kuching in 2018 during his Tertianship in Nairobi, and exposure with Jesuit schools in Manila.

Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific President Fr Tony Moreno SJ warmly welcomed Fr Lim to the conference of Major Superiors.

“I thank him for his availability to be of service to the Malaysia-Singapore Region and the Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific,” he said.

Fr Moreno also thanked Fr Soh for his six years of generous service to the Jesuit conference, and commended both men to everyone’s prayers.
