My arrival in heaven

by Noel Oliver SJ

I arrived in heaven and stood in line,
Peter was there our seats to assign.
Row 210 was assigned to the one before me,
I waited and waited and got row 303.

Our Lord Jesus was sitting out there,
Millions in His embrace but still space to spare.
Looking ahead I saw many rows up front,
Looking fairly empty. Was this a stunt?

Hey Peter, I said, why did I get row 303?
Many of those front rows are nearly empty and free?
I gave my life for Jesus for sure, is this what I get?
I wanted to be in Jesus’ arms how can I ever forget.

See close to Jesus’ Heart, there is still more space,
Hey Peter, help me get there for Jesus’ embrace.
Peter smiled, held my hand tight to explain,
Why I got row 303 and have to bear this pain.

These are some of those in Jesus’ embrace,
That was when they were in earthly space.

These are also those who showed great love,
Who listened with care to Him up above?

303 was created by you, not assigned by me,
Sit a while on the seat, soon you’ll be free,
to reduce this distance created by you.
God is everywhere, you are in His arms too.

The distance from Jesus was made by me,
Jesus was always there while I was at 303.
Many things in my life could have gone bad,
But Jesus by my side was all I had.

I have begun the process to make amends,
Getting closer to Jesus will take split seconds.
Very soon, with this multitude, there I will be,
In Jesus’ warm embrace, in row Zero not 303.
