The road leading to Pattum Thani Prison

Categories: Social Justice

For the members of the Jesuit Prison Ministry team, continuing to visit prisoners took will, determination and faith.  The pictures below show the road leading to Pattum Thani Prison, Central Correctional Institution for Young Offenders, on Nov 22.

Khlonghok Road

Houses along the left
After exiting the Lum Looka Express Way, when we turn to Klonghok Road. On the right is the canal (Klonghok).  The water level of the canal and road are the same. The houses along the left side of the road have been flooded for almost a month.  The trees going to die, the water is so dirty and smells.

People affected by the flood have to rely on big trucks for food, water and other supplies. The step is high.  The wait is long.  It is difficult if they have a baby or child or an elderly person to take care of. Dairy products are limited, and there is danger of disease from the dirty water.
Wat Wain Boon Agricultural project
Wat Wain Boon temple is before Pattum Thani Prison.  The water here is dirty and smelly.   The temple is deserted, with few people visiting during the flood. Near Wat Wain Boon temple is the Agriculture Project.  This is the entrance. The trees there are starting to turn brown. They are dying.  Behind this is the Pattum Thani Prison.

Finally we reach the prison.  This is the entrance of Pattum Thani prison.  We notice the mark of the water some days ago.   The day we visited, the water had receded a little, which made our trip possible   Our prisoners at Pattum Thani were glad and surprised to see us in the visit hall. They were so happy with our effort to come to visit them.
