New Presidents for three Jesuit Conferences

Father General Arturo Sosa, Superior General of the Society of Jesus, has appointed new Presidents for the Jesuit Conferences of Africa and Madagascar, Latin America and Europe.

Fr Agbonkhianmeghe Orobator SJ of the Eastern Africa Province has been appointed President of the Jesuit Conference of Africa and Madagascar (JESAM). Fr Orobator was born in 1967, entered the Society in 1986 and was ordained in 1998. He was provincial of the Eastern Africa Province from 2009 to 2014.  He is currently principal of Hekima College University, the Jesuit School of Theology in Nairobi, Kenya. He succeeds Fr Michael Lewis SJ of the South African Province as Conference President and will assume office on February 16. [JESAM]

Fr Roberto Jaramillo Bernal SJ of the Colombia Province has been appointed as President of the Latin American Jesuit Conference (CPAL). Fr Jaramillo was born in 1963, entered the Society in 1981 and was ordained in 1993.  He is currently the superior of the Jesuits in the Amazon Region of Brazil, as well as the Conference President’s Delegate for the Social Sector. He succeeds Fr Jorge Cela SJ of the Antillas Province as Conference President and will assume office on March 20. [CPAL]

Fr Franck Janin SJ of the South Belgium and Luxembourg Province has been appointed as President of the European Jesuit Conference (CEP). Father Janin was born in 1958, entered the Society in 1984 and was ordained in 1990. He has been provincial of the South Belgium and Luxemburg Province since 2011. Fr Janin succeeds Fr John Dardis SJ of the Irish Province as Conference President and will assume office in late summer. [Jesuits in Europe]
