The Xavier Network, of which Jesuit Mission Australia is a member, has officially activated its emergency protocol to help children and families affected by the devastating earthquakes that hit Venezuela on 24 June.

The magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes have caused widespread destruction across affected communities and left thousands of people in urgent need of assistance. Homes, schools, health facilities, and critical infrastructure have been damaged or destroyed, forcing families to flee their homes and seek safety under difficult conditions.

Entreculturas is leading the coordinated response, working closely with Fe y Alegría Venezuela, Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) Venezuela, and other Province works on the ground. The Venezuelan Province has appointed a dedicated response committee to coordinate efforts locally.

“We share in the pain of the numerous families struck by this tragedy,” the Jesuits in Venezuela said. “Guided by our faith and commitment to human life, we stand in active solidarity with the victims, affected communities, and all those working to save lives and accompany the displaced.”

“The scale of this disaster is heartbreaking,” said Jesuit Mission CEO Helen Forde. “Through our Jesuit partners in Venezuela, families are already receiving emergency shelter, relief and protection. As communities begin the long recovery ahead, we stand with them.”

Jesuit Mission Australia, as the Xavier Network member organisation for Asia Pacific, is accepting donations to support this coordinated response.
